I regularly listen to a variety of podcasts about Linux and open-source software. Linux podcasts are a great way to learn about new software and hardware, advance understanding of current technologies, improve your skill set, and be entertained. Fortunately, there are many Linux podcasts which feature smart and talented hosts and guests. In this article I talk about a few of my favourite Linux and FOSS podcasts.
I especially enjoy the Late Night Linux family of podcasts (https://latenightlinux.com), which includes:
- Late Night Linux
- Linux After Dark
- 2.5 Admins, Linux Dev Time
- Hybrid Cloud Show
- Linux Matters
Although each of these shows cover unique topics, the one that I appreciate the most is "2.5 Admins". I am very much impressed by the knowledge possessed by the Linux SysAdmin hosts - every episode I learn something new or hear about a way to improve a skill I already have. The Late Night Linux family of podcasts are well edited with very little irrelevant content, and the show length is kept to a minimum. I even enjoy the advertising as it is always related to Linux and open-source software, and is another opportunity to learn about a new product or technology.
I also listen to the The TuxDigital Network shows (https://tuxdigital.com):
- Destination Linux
- This Week in Linux
- Linux Out Loud
These podcasts are very fun and friendly, and feature hosts that have great chemistry. They cover a wire array of open-source topics, and while the shows do not go too deeply into technical subjects, they do provide a great way to learn about software, hardware, news, community events, and at the same time be entertained.
FLOSS Weekly (https://flossweekly.libsyn.com) is show where the host interviews guests from the world of Free, Libre, and Open-Source Software. The FLOSS weekly podcast is a wonderful way to learn about software and hardware, usually directly from the creators or those most involved with the technology.
Jupiter Broadcasting shows (https://www.jupiterbroadcasting.com) including:
- Linux Unplugged
- Self-Hosted
are in their own words "Home to the best shows on Linux, Open Source, Security, Privacy, Community, Development, and News." They are entertaining, informative, and cover a variety of topics to varying depths. The shows are typically over an hour in length and are a great way to learn about Linux and open-source software.
Enterprise Linux Security with Jay LaCroix and Joao Correia (https://enterpriselinuxsecurity.show) is another one of my favourite podcasts which covers recent security related news and issues. Not all topics relate directly to Linux and open-source software (for example the 2024 CrowdStrike debacle), however they are always related to technology security, with expert input and discussion from the hosts. Jay LaCroix also has a wonderful Linux YouTube channel which I recommend (https://www.youtube.com/@LearnLinuxTV), in addition to books and courses available on education platforms such as Udemy.
